Dr. Alan Heaven is a theatre practitioner and theatre historian. He has been staging mystery plays regularly since 1989 and was first invited to direct Doomsday by the Merchant Adventurers in 2010. He is currently the only person who can claim to have ended the world five times.
He was previously Artistic Director of the Tom Stoppard Theatre; playwright and director for Kissing Gate Theatre Co. and worked as Head of Drama at an independent school in Yorkshire. He trained in physical theatre and mask work.
His research interests include early theatres of Hull and their social connections; and the stagecraft of medieval and Early Modern performance. Practically, folk theatre performance, puppetry, film and theatre are areas in which he continues to practice.
